Your Jamaica Destination Wedding,
Planned by A Travel Agent Who Has Actually Been There
Here is the truth about Jamaica weddings. The island is not just a backdrop. It is part of the celebration. The music finds you. The rhythm slows you down. The resort staff know your names by day two, and they want your wedding day to be perfect almost as much as you do.
I am Kerri, known to my couples as Caribbean Kerri. I am a Sandals Royal Chairman Platinum Elite advisor and one of the Jamaica Tourist Board’s Top 50 agents in the United States. Translation: I have spent more time on this island than most people spend anywhere, and I know which resort suits which couple before you finish describing your vision.
If you are planning a Jamaica destination wedding, this page will walk you through what actually matters. The right region for your celebration. The resorts that consistently get it right. What it really costs. What the legal marriage process involves. And what working with me looks like, which is free, by the way. I am compensated by the resorts, so my planning is always at zero cost to you.
GOLDEN BEACHES & CUSTOM wedding styles
Why Jamaica, Really?
Couples choose Jamaica for a reason, and it is rarely just the beaches. It is the feeling. Here is what I hear most often from my clients after their wedding week:
- “The staff felt like family by day three.”
- “The music made every moment feel alive.”
- “We got luxury without the price tag of the French West Indies.”
- “Our guests are still talking about it, six months later.”
Jamaica delivers a balance that very few destinations can match. Luxury resorts with genuine soul. Dramatic natural beauty, from Negril’s cliffs to the Ocho Rios waterfalls. Direct flight access from most US cities. Wedding teams who have coordinated thousands of ceremonies and know exactly what they are doing.
If your vision is polished and elegant with a pulse of warmth and culture, Jamaica is your answer.
The Four Regions
of Jamaica
And How To Choose.
This is where most wedding sites lose you. Jamaica is not one place. Choosing the right region matters as much as choosing the resort. Here is how I guide my couples.
MONTEGO BAY:
The workhorse region. Most direct flights, easiest logistics for guests, and the widest range of resort options. Sangster International Airport is right here, so transfers are short. Best for: Larger guest lists, couples who want flight accessibility to be a non-issue.
NEGRIL:
Seven Mile Beach, sunsets that stop conversation, and dramatic cliffs at the west end. The vibe is more bohemian, the pace is slower, and the light is something I have not seen anywhere else in the Caribbean. About 90 minutes from the Montego Bay airport. Best for: Couples who want drama and romance, symbolic cliff ceremonies, and a laid-back celebration.
OCHO RIOS:
Lush, green, and anchored by the waterfalls that give this coast its identity. More tropical and less arid than Montego Bay. About 90 minutes from MBJ, or you can fly into Kingston. Best for: Couples who want nature woven into their wedding, with built-in excursions like Dunn’s River Falls for the wedding party.
SOUTH COAST:
The quiet side of Jamaica. More remote, less traveled, and intentionally so. About two hours from Montego Bay. This is where I send couples who want true escape, not just vacation. Best for: Intimate weddings where privacy and disconnection are the priority.
MY PICKS FOR JAMAICA destination wedding RESORTS
These are the properties I send my couples to, organized by the kind of wedding you are planning.
As a Sandals Royal Chairman Platinum Elite advisor, I know the Sandals and Beaches portfolio deeply. I also plan outside of that brand when the fit is better.
For Intimate Weddings (2 to 30 guests)
- Sandals Royal Caribbean (Montego Bay): The private offshore island is one of the most romantic ceremony locations in the Caribbean. Victorian-inspired elegance, plus over-the-water bungalows.
- Sandals Royal Plantation (Ocho Rios): Sandals’ most intimate property in Jamaica. All-suite, all-butler, adults-only, and tucked on a private clifftop cove. If you want refined, personal, and deeply romantic, this is the one.
- Sandals Negril: Quintessential barefoot luxury on Seven Mile Beach. For small groups who want their ceremony set against the most iconic stretch of sand in Jamaica.
For Medium Weddings (30 to 70 guests)
- Sandals Montego Bay: The original Sandals flagship, right on a private beach with an iconic over-the-water chapel. Legacy, energy, and a wedding team that has been doing this longer than almost anyone in the Caribbean.
- Sandals Dunn’s River (Ocho Rios): The newest Sandals in Jamaica and one of the most elevated. Modern, sophisticated, designed with weddings in mind from the ground up.
- Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall: A rare dual-branded property. Zilara is adults-only for your core celebration, Ziva welcomes families, and the two share a stunning beachfront. Ideal when your guest list spans every life stage.
For Larger Weddings (60+ guests)
- Sandals South Coast: European village-style architecture, a long stretch of quiet beach, and some of the best overwater bungalows outside of the Maldives.
- Sandals Ochi (Ocho Rios): The largest Sandals in Jamaica. If you have a big group and want entertainment, restaurants, and activities for everyone, this one delivers.
- Beaches Negril: Seven Mile Beach for you, a waterpark and character dining for the kids, and the full Beaches wedding team who handle family groups beautifully.
What a Jamaica DestinationWedding actually costs
The Honest Version.
Every couple deserves real numbers before they fall in love with a vision.
Many Jamaica resorts offer complimentary wedding packages when you or your guests meet minimum night stays. The complimentary package typically includes ceremony setup, an officiant, a small cake, and sparkling wine. Upgrades are where costs grow.
Rough guidance based on recent clients:
- Couple-only wedding (legal or symbolic): Often complimentary with a qualifying stay, plus your travel costs. A week of travel typically runs $4,000 to $12,000 depending on resort tier.
- Intimate wedding (10 to 30 guests): Plan for $5,000 to $15,000 in wedding-specific upgrades (welcome events, upgraded decor, photography, private receptions).
- Medium wedding (30 to 70 guests): Plan for $10,000 to $25,000 in wedding-specific costs on top of travel.
- Large wedding: Custom pricing. This is where working with me saves you real money, because I negotiate group benefits and concessions that are not available to the public.
Jamaica still delivers exceptional value compared to a traditional US wedding. Most of my couples tell me they spent less on their entire week, including travel for both of them, than their friends spent on one reception back home.
THE LEGAL SIDE simplified
Jamaica is one of the easiest Caribbean destinations for legal marriage.
Here is the condensed version.
- Arrival requirement: You must be in Jamaica at least 24 hours before your ceremony.
- Documents needed: Valid passports, original or certified copies of birth certificates, a divorce decree if applicable, and a death certificate if widowed. Non-English documents require certified translations.
- Application timing: Documents are submitted in advance, usually two to four weeks before the ceremony.
- No blood test required.
- No residency requirement beyond the 24-hour rule.
Legal requirements can shift. I confirm the current rules for every one of my couples and walk you through each document. This is the kind of detail you should not have to figure out on your own.
Why Your Jamaica Wedding Needs a Destination Wedding Travel Agent, not just a planner
A general travel agent or wedding coordinator can get you to Jamaica. That is not the same as getting it right.
Here is what working with me actually looks like:
- Sandals Royal Chairman Platinum Elite status. I hold the highest advisor tier with Sandals. That means top access, priority bookings, and group benefits at every Sandals and Beaches property in Jamaica.
- Jamaica Tourist Board Top 50 advisor. One of only fifty in the United States. I have relationships on the ground that make problems disappear before you even know they exist.
- I have been there. Not from brochures. On property, in the bridal suites, at the ceremony setups, eating at the restaurants, meeting the wedding teams.
- My services are free. I am compensated by the resorts. You pay nothing for my expertise, and you pay no more than booking direct. Often, thanks to my group rates, you pay less.
- I handle the logistics. Flights, transfers, rooming lists, special requests, guest communications, and timeline coordination with the resort team. All of it.
If you are a busy professional who does not have time to become a Jamaica wedding expert yourself, that is exactly why I am here.

"Can we really afford a Jamaica destination wedding?"
"How do we coordinate everyone’s travel details?"
"Is there a way to make this extra special?"
That’s exactly what we do. You dream it—we make it happen. Let’s plan something incredible.
Is it legal to get married in Jamaica?
Yes. Jamaica is one of the most straightforward Caribbean destinations for legal marriage, and the certificate is recognized internationally. You submit your documents ahead of time and arrive at least 24 hours before your ceremony. No blood test is required, which keeps the process simple.
How much does a destination wedding in Jamaica cost?
It depends on your guest count and the level of customization you want. Many resorts offer complimentary wedding packages with a qualifying stay. Intimate weddings of 10 to 30 guests generally see $5,000 to $15,000 in wedding-specific costs. Medium weddings of 30 to 70 guests range from $10,000 to $25,000. Large weddings are custom quoted, and this is where working with me often saves couples the most money.
Do I really need a travel advisor if the resort has a wedding coordinator?
The resort coordinator handles the wedding itself. I handle everything leading up to it and everything around it. That includes flights, group rate negotiation, rooming lists, transfers, guest questions, dietary requests, special occasions within the group, and the thousand details that come up when fifty of your favorite people are traveling internationally. My couples tell me they cannot imagine doing it without me, and I am free.
How far in advance should I plan a Jamaica destination wedding?
Ideally 12 to 18 months out. That gives you the best selection of resorts, wedding dates, and room blocks, and it gives your guests time to plan their travel. I have planned weddings with shorter timelines successfully, but 12 to 18 months is the sweet spot.
Is Jamaica easy for my guests to travel to?
Yes. Montego Bay has direct flights from most major US cities, which removes connections for most of your guest list. Resort transfers are well organized, and hotels offer a range of price points so guests with different budgets can all attend.
What is usually included in a Jamaica wedding package?
Most all-inclusive resort packages include ceremony setup, officiant, a small cake, sparkling wine for the toast, and coordination support. Upgrades you will likely want include photography, live music or DJ, private receptions, upgraded floral and decor, and welcome events. I help my couples decide what is worth the upgrade and what is already great as-is.
